In the period of October 8-10, 2025, in the town of Kostenets, FTTU and CITUB organized training on occupational safety and health. It was attended by over 20 trade union members of the federation, representatives of "Stolichen Elektrotransport", "Stolichen Avtotransport", "Metropolitan", Sofia Airport, and "Burgasbus".

The first day started with a conference on "OSH when working with carcinogens", moderated by Ognyan Atanasov – Vice President of CITUB. Lecturers were Violeta Dobreva – Executive Director of the WTF, Darina Konova - Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Rayna Georgieva and Vladimir Vladimirov from CITUB.

The main focus of the program was the results of a study on risk factors for occupational cancer in Europe, presented by state expert Darina Konova (MLSP). She outlined the main carcinogenic substances and pointed out ways for their identification and control.

According to the study, the ten most common risk factors workers are exposed to are solar UV radiation, diesel emissions, benzene, respirable crystalline silica, hexavalent chromium, formaldehyde, lead, wood dust, artificial UV radiation, and nickel. Among the sectors most frequently exposed to risk factors are mining activities, construction, furniture manufacturing, repair of computer equipment and household goods, water transport, fishing and forestry, and leather processing, shows the survey conducted among over 24,000 workers in 6 EU countries.

Rayna Georgieva, Senior OSH Expert at CITUB, presented current changes in the Roadmap on Carcinogens, which aims to systematically reduce worker exposure and promote the elimination of carcinogens. She recalled that to protect workers from exposure to cancer-causing agents, the EU has a specialized Directive on the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to carcinogens, mutagens or substances toxic to reproduction at work (Directive 2004/37/EC).

During the conference, opportunities for funding safety measures through the "Working Conditions" Fund, presented by Executive Director Violeta Dobreva, as well as the challenges for safe working conditions in land transport, presented by expert Vladimir Vladimirov, were also discussed. The President of FTTU, Aleksandar Shopov, also took part in the conference.

On the second day, the lawyer of FTTU - Nikolay Stoyanov, explained the procedures for declaring a legal strike, the procedures for concluding a CBA, as well as the method for calculating cumulative working hours. The participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss practical cases from their enterprises.
