Today, the president of the Federation of Transport and Trade Unions at the CITUB, Eng. Alexander Shopov, carried out a working visit to “Burgasbus” EOOD and Burgas Airport, part of FTTU’s consistent policy for direct dialogue with workers and employers in the sector.

As part of the visit, meetings were held both with the managements of the two enterprises and with the local trade union organizations, with the main focus placed on working conditions, the sustainable development of transport services, and the need for adequate state support.

At “Burgasbus,” a working meeting was held with Eng. Petko Dragnev – Executive Director of the company. During the conversation, key issues concerning the development of public transport in Bulgaria were discussed.

Special attention was paid to what was achieved by FTTU and CITUB in the process of adopting the Public Transport Act, and the contribution of the trade unions to protecting the interests of both workers and municipalities, as well as employers in the sector, was emphasized.

Efforts to secure additional financial resources through the extension law on the state budget were also reviewed, including its impact on the operations of “Burgasbus” and the need for sustainable financing of the service.

In the course of the discussion, the topic of the need for additional funds for investments and compensations was also highlighted, especially in the context of a dynamic and uncertain geopolitical environment that directly affects the costs and functioning of transport operators.

The opportunities provided by the “Working Conditions” Fund for improving the work environment, occupational safety and health, as well as specific ideas for its more active use, were also discussed.

As part of the visit to Burgas Airport, a meeting was held with Vasil Atanasov – Airport Director.

The conversation covered similar topics related to the sector’s challenges, the need for investments and support for strategic infrastructure, as well as the role of social dialogue in ensuring a stable and predictable working environment.

The opportunities for future joint initiatives between FTTU and the airport management, aimed at improving working conditions and staff development, were also discussed.

During the visit, Eng. Shopov and the accompanying representatives of FTTU visited actual workplaces and familiarized themselves on site with the working conditions in the two enterprises.

Conversations were held with employees and trade union activists, during which specific problems, proposals, and workers’ expectations were discussed.

Also participating in the meetings were the chairpersons of the trade union organizations – Nedko Radev and Todor Todorov, as well as Maya Sarieva – CITUB regional coordinator for Burgas, who actively joined the discussions and presented the current situation at the local level.

Federation of Transport and Trade Unions at the CITUB will continue to defend the interests of workers through active dialogue with institutions and employers, as well as through concrete actions to ensure stability, investment, and better working conditions in the sector.
