Penka Ilieva warns about the risk of job losses at the Port of Varna.

Jul 11, 2025

The Chairman of the SO at "Varna Port – West" JSC, Penka Ilieva, stated to Radio Varna her disagreement with the intentions for the concession of the Varna Port, announced by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Angel Zaburtov.

Ilieva expressed serious concerns for the future of Terminal Varna-East, which, according to the statements of the Deputy Minister, may be transformed into an attraction zone with a yacht marina – a change that threatens the jobs of over 400 people.

The workers are ready for protest actions, including closing the terminal, but at this stage, they will await the results of the World Bank's analysis.

Federation of Transport and Trade Unions at the CITUB stands fully behind the fair demands of the workers and employees of "Varna Port" JSC.
