A national protest of transport workers blocked 3 key intersections in Sofia

Today, a national protest of transport workers took place under the slogan "Decent work – decent pay! Without transport, there is no economy!". It covered three key intersections at Eagles' Bridge, Dragan Tsankov Blvd, Evlogi Georgiev Blvd, Macedonia Sq and lasted for over 4 hours. More than 1,500 workers from "Stolichan Electrotransport" EAD, "Stolichan Avtotransport" EAD, "Metropoliten" EAD, "Urban Transport" - Varna, "Municipal Transport" Ruse, and IAA took part in the protest.
The demands of the workers are for 40.7 million BGN, which will be sufficient for about a 15% salary increase, or: 400 BGN on the basic salaries in the urban transport in Sofia, 300 BGN for the urban transport in the city of Varna, as well as an increase in salaries in the municipal transport in the city of Ruse and the Executive Agency "Road Administration".
The protest rally reached the Ministry of Finance, where unfortunately nobody wished to receive the protesters.
Federation of Transport Trade Unions managed to submit its protest declaration to the Minister of Finance.
The protest ended in front of Sofia Municipality, where the protesters were also not received for a meeting, and they declared their readiness to strike.
FTTU-CITUB insists on a dialogue between the institutions, where the ministry, municipality, and trade unions can find a solution to secure the requested increase in salaries.
Tension at the protest of urban transport employees escalated, and the protesters headed towards the "Vasil Levski Stadium" metro station, where they entered and organized a symbolic underground procession inside the train cars. The procession passed through the "Sofia University" metro station and subsequently returned back to Dragan Tsankov Blvd.
A symbolic ladder was forged on-site, which the participants planned to place in front of the Ministry of Finance. The main demands were written on it: "Dialogue", "Salaries", and "Incomes".
The protesters built a "Pyre of Burned Hopes", where they set fire to signs with inscriptions such as "Personal Life", "Labor Rights", "Decent Pay", "Compliance with Working Hours".
