27 years - Sofia Metro

Jan 28, 2025

On January 28, 1998, the first metro train departs from "Zapaden park" station towards the center of the capital - the beginning of a transportation revolution.

The first diameter includes 5 metro stations and a 6.5 km route - from "Slivnitsa" boulevard through "Lyulin" residential complex to "K. Velichkov" boulevard. Over the years, the metro has grown, and today it boasts 52 km of lines and 47 stations, connecting all key points of the city.

The future of the metro is even more impressive - 10 new stations are currently being constructed in three different directions. This will not only reduce traffic, but also improve air quality, transforming Sofia into an even more sustainable and connected capital.

Federation of Transport and Trade Unions at the CITUB congratulates all workers in the underground railway of Sofia! Without you, the metro would be just a beautiful but empty facility!
