27 years - Sofia Metro

On January 28, 1998, the first subway train departed from "Zapaden Park" station towards the center of the capital – the beginning of a transportation revolution.
The first line includes 5 metro stations and 6.5 km of track – from "Slivnitsa" Blvd. through "Lyulin" residential area to "K. Velichkov" Blvd. Over the years, the metro has grown and today it has 52 km of lines and 47 stations, connecting all key points of the city.
The future of the metro is even more impressive – 10 new stations are currently under construction in three different directions. This will not only reduce traffic, but will also improve air quality, making Sofia an even more sustainable and connected capital.
Federation of Transport Trade Unions congratulates all workers in the underground railway of Sofia! Without you, the metro would be just a beautiful but empty facility!
